20 Years Supporting the Boonville Woodsmen’s Field Days

Again this year, Mark Mowrey, a forester for Baillie Lumber, led a dedicated team of volunteers at the Woodsmen’s Field Days in Boonville, New York to see old friends and raise money for local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Log a load volunteers 2017 IMG 5729The Woodsmen's Field Days was celebrating their 70th Anniversary of exhibiting Woodsmen’s Skill competitions, Forest Industry Equipment and  up to date Forest Industry practices. They are a nonprofit organization of nearly 400 volunteers dedicated to the promotion of the forest products industry. The annual Woodsmen’s Field Days draw over 40,000 people to Boonville each year.

For the 20th year in a row, volunteers raised funds through a program called Log-a-Load for Kids at Woodsmen’s which is part of the Empire State Forestry Products Association charitable contribution efforts.

Over 45 people with a connection to the forest industry joined forces to raise money by raffling off donated chainsaws, craft items, and loads of firewood.

“It is always great to be part of this exciting New York State Forest industry event,” said Mark Mowrey.  “One of the highlights for me this year was seeing Miles and Amelia, twins born pre-maturely, riding in the CJ Logging float behind Bobby Gibson of “Swamp Loggers” fame in the Woodsmen’s Parade. The smiles on their faces were terrific!”

Proceeds raised from this event were donated to Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare in Utica, The Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse and to Samaritan Hospital in Watertown, New York. The Children's Miracle Network of Northern New York at Samaritan Medical is an organization that seeks to raise funds for improving the health and well-being of children throughout Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.
